Does losing weight make you tired?

Feeling tired after a workout when you’re trying to lose weight is normal. But the lingering tiredness when you’re on a weight loss plan is an alert that something is not okay. The main reason for this is because you might be doing something that drags your energy level down without knowing it. Here are some of the common causes of fatigue with weight loss that may be making you feel chronically tired.

You may be excited about losing weight and end up reducing your calorie intake too much. Starving yourself in attempts to lose weight will slow your metabolism and result in low energy levels. Feeling fatigued and cloudy thinking is enough symptoms that your body is not getting enough fuel. You should not cut the amount of food you eat per day. Eat as much as you can but choose low-calorie foods. To keep your calorie in line when you’re struggling to lose weight, you should eat lots of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats. You should eat food that is enough to fire up your metabolism and provide you with the energy you need throughout the day.

2. You’re not eating enough proteins

Proteins help build and repair the muscle tissues that make you stronger and give you stamina. When you are trying to lose weight, it is okay to cut off fatty proteins from your diet, but you should replace them with lean proteins. Proteins will keep you feeling full and stronger than carbohydrates. You should eat beans and lentils, chicken and turkey, low-fat dairy products, fish and seafood, tofu, nuts and seeds, and avocado to fuel your body when trying to lose weight.

3. You are not eating enough fat

Many people think that fat is bad. It is true, but not all types of fat. Your body needs fats for energy, to make you feel contented, to absorb minerals and vitamins, to make your hair and skin look healthier, and many more. The key to losing weight is eating fats that are good to you and avoiding those that increase the risk of heart diseases. Some sources of heart-friendly fats are nuts and seeds, fish like mackerel and salmon, avocado, and olive oil.

4. You are not drinking enough water

Your body goes to a survival mode if you fail to drink enough water. Your body retains the available water for vital organ functions. One of the symptoms that your body is in the survival mode is feeling fatigued and sluggish.

When you are exercising, your body loses water in the form of sweat. Drinking water 30 minutes before and after an exercise may help eliminate the tiredness feeling after daily workouts. Drinking enough water makes your body work well, joints feel better, organs function well, thoughts become clear, muscles become stronger, and gives you more energy.

5. You are exercising too much

Exercise is key to losing weight, but you should not overdo it. Listen to your body, and don’t push it too hard. A daily 30 minutes exercise is enough. If you are doing strenuous activities, 30 minutes might be too much for you. Overexercising will not help you. What matters is consistency. If you have a medical condition, you should consult your doctor before getting started with strenuous exercises.

To avoid chronic fatigue as a result of weight loss exercises, you should start with simple exercises and keep increasing the length and intensity as you get stronger.

6. You are not getting enough sleep

Not having a night of quality sleep, and not sleeping for enough duration reduces your energy levels. If you are waking up tired and feeling low in the morning, that might be an indication that you are not sleeping enough. Poor sleep works against your goals as it contributes to weight gain. Not sleeping enough makes you feel hungry and end up eating. Setting a consistent sleeping schedule, avoiding alcohol and nicotine, limiting caffeine, and getting regular exercise will help improve the quality of your sleep.
